Two newspapers are thanked for blood donor drives

Spencer Feeney, editor of the Gloucester Citizen, has received a certificate of thanks from the National Blood Service in recognition of the newspaper’s recent campaign to recruit more blood donors.

The paper’s target was to attract 500 new donors in three months. In fact they managed 518.

Mr Feeney, who was joined at the presentation by reporter Annelisa Macaulay-Lowe who co-ordinated and wrote many of the campaign stories, said he was accepting the award on behalf of all those who had enrolled and the many thousands who already gave blood.

Meanwhile, the Hull Daily Mail also received a big “thank you” for its campaign which saw more than 2,000 readers enrol in a month as blood donors and potential bone marrow donors.

Their campaign was sparked off by the plight of leukaemia sufferer Molly-Ann Barnett.
