Telegraph helps police track down the 'wanted'

The Scunthorpe Telegraph has helped police to track down more than 30 people who have had warrants issued for their arrest.

Since September, when the paper teamed up with Humberside Police, the Telegraph has been publishing the names of people wanted on warrant but who failed to turn up at court.

And more than 30 people have now been located, after readers were asked for their help.

Four people named out of a list of 28 published on December 23 have since been located, and numerous people have handed themselves in after seeing their own names in print.

The police have also been contacted with information on the whereabouts of some of the wanted people.

In total, more than 100 people have been named and shamed.

Telegraph editor Jane Manning said: “When warrants are issued it is only right people should turn up to court to face the justice system.

“The police need the public’s help and the Scunthorpe Telegraph has again proved itself the most effective way for them to get it.”

Chief Supt Stuart Donald, who is the divisional commander for B Division – the policing area for North Lincolnshire – said the successful location of more than 30 people wanted on warrant was down to the help of Scunthorpe Telegraph readers.

He said: “The professional approach between the Scunthorpe Telegraph and our warrants department has helped remove the wanted people from the streets; it is a partnership much appreciated.

“The coverage has ensured information has been delivered to the public, leading to the readers providing us with quality information, which has led to the apprehension of those wanted.”
