Target of 25 is beaten

Readers of the Nottingham Evening Post have handed over enough cash to place 25 life-saving defibrillators at key points throughout Nottinghamshire.

The original target was to buy 25 – but the Start-a-Heart campaign has been such a success that the paper is keeping it running in 2002.

Editor Graham Glen said: “Readers have helped raise £15,000, and councils and businesses have given weighty support to pay for more defibrillators in public places across the county.

“These devices do save lives, as many people who have survived cardiac arrests will testify. That they are available in so many locations is vital.”

Start-a-Heart is run jointly by the Post and St John Ambulance.
