Stay safe with the SLP

The South London Press has launched a campaign to help its readers keep safe during the dark winter months.

It offers helpful tips and advice on getting home, such as planning your route, looking confident, and letting people know where you are going.

Reporter Oscar Mortali said: “Every week there are frightening tales of people being robbed, mugged or worse. Most of us know a victim.

“Lone women, the elderly and other vulnerable members of our community are particularly at risk.”

The Stay Safe campaign is also offering readers a mini personal attack alarm at a reduced price, as well as a free safety awareness poster and information on how to avoid risk.

The campaign was launched with a focus on a 38-year-old woman who was found unconscious by a passer-by after being assaulted walking home in the dark on her own.

She fought for her life in hospital and even now, eight months later, is suffering partial brain damage.

The paper is hoping that by following simple guidelines they would soon become second nature.

Oscar said: “With a little more forward planning you’ll be more likely to do the right thing if there is ever any trouble or danger.”
