Star turn brings in £25,900

Staff at the Evening Star were celebrating after the Ipswich and Suffolk Press Ball smashed its £20,000 target by £5,000 for local charity Disability Care Enterprise.

The event’s theme was ‘Lets Celebrate’ and it raised £25,911 in just one night to continue to improve the lives of people with disabilities living in Suffolk.

The Ball began with Basil Fawlty and Manuel lookalikes greeting the 250 guests. As it continued the search and rescue helicopter from the RAF Wattisham circled above.

Evening Star editor – and host for the evening – Nigel Pickover said: “Once again we have smashed our targets to be able to provide equipment for some very special children, all of you help achieve such remarkable results.”

A large amount of the money raised came from auctioning items such as Robbie Williams tickets, which sold for £1,000 and tickets for the Wimbledon semi-final which went under the hammer for £400.

After all that excitement, the party got into full swing with Bee Gees tribute band, Bees Knees, and Abba soundalikes Abba Illusion.

Now in the sixth year the Press Ball has raised a collective sum of more than £160,000.
