Special edition to mark first anniversary of tragedy

The Bridgwater Mercury has produced a special edition to mark the first anniversary of a tragic fire, which claimed the lives of three young people.

After the blaze, which took place in Friarn Street last February, the Mercury launched Lily’s Fund in memory of the victims.

More than £6,000 was raised and has now been spent to fund a series of community projects.

One year on, a four-page pullout in the Mercury looked back on the tragedy and told in words and pictures how the money has been divided up.

“The response to Lily’s Fund was absolutely magnificent,” said editor-in-chief Ken Bird.

“It will ensure the three young victims are never forgotten.

“The fire coverage was a traumatic experience for all of the Mercury team … they should be very proud of their efforts.”
