Sick toddler set to fly

One of the most successful appeals by the Wiltshire Times has raised £6,500 after only nine weeks.

The story of three-year-old Zara Fox touched the hearts of people fromacross west Wiltshire and Zara’s family are overwhelmed by the responseto the appeal.

The toddler suffers from an extremely rare disease and needs to travel to America, with her parents, for treatment.

Her condition, Coffin-Siris Syndrome, has no known cause and affects herspeech, feeding and limbs.

She has to be fed by a machine which pumps milk into her stomach througha tube.

Mrs Fox said they noticed her symptoms as soon as she was born.

She said: “Her hair is very thin and her facial features aren’t setnormally. Her toes are a strange shape and she can’t speak, she justmakes funny noises.”

The family is planning to travel to America in July next year to meet Dr Coffin who originally identified the syndrome in 1970.

He and a group of specialists are researching the condition.
