Roundabout campaign for accident blackspot

MP Andy King has backed the Rugby Observer campaign to have a roundabout built at a junction on the A45 known as a notorious accident blackspot.

Laura Faulks, 23, was the third driver to die on the stretch of road when her car was in a head on collision with a lorry during the morning rush hour traffic.

Since 1990 the junction has witnessed nine serious accidents and more than 40 crashes.

Rugby MP Andy King told the newspaper “the time for talking is over” as he called upon the Highways Agency to make the improvements.

He also said: “I don’t believe we can wait any longer, and I know everybody in Rugby feels the same way.

“There can be no delay, because for every month we wait there could be another tragedy.”

The Highways Agency already introduced some interim safety measure at the junction earlier in the year including warning signs, speed cameras and a reduction of the speed limit by 10 mph.
