Research project given cash boost

South London Press readers have donated £15,000 to a research project that could save the lives of brain disorder sufferers.

Eight-year-old Alex Hunt’s family have raised the money for charities and research into the fatal disease Adrenoleukodystrophy, which Alex sufferers from.

A revolutionary US scheme, the Myelin Project, is pioneering transplants that could save the lives of ALD and multiple sclerosis sufferers and £10,000 of the money is being donated to this.

Alex’s mother Sara has handed out five other cheques of £1,000 to The Ronnie McKeith Ward at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, Richard House Day Centre, The Rainbow Trust respite charity, Helen House respite care home in Oxford and the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust.

Alex’s one-year-old brother Ayden has also tested positive for ALD but he has not displayed any symptoms of the disorder.
