Readers give generously to cancer fund

The on-going battle to beat cancer is being boosted by money from readers of the South Wales Evening Post.

The paper originally set up a campaign to raise £600,000 for a new chemotherapy unit at Singleton Hospital in Swansea.

Generous readers donated a total of £725,000 and the excess cash is now being put towards building a centre of excellence for cancer research.

And on top of that, the institute has received a further £100,000 from a separate cancer fund being run by the Evening Post.

Swansea NHS trust chief executive David Williams said: “We would like to thank Evening Post readers for raising the money.

“Contributions are still coming in daily for the Evening Post Cancer so please keep sending the money in. We are grateful for all donations, however big or small.”

Money donated to the fund will now be put towards a new breast cancer unit at the Singleton Hospital.
