Putting the pride into Bolton

The Bolton Evening News has launched a new campaign in preparation for the Commonwealth Games.

Bolton is hosting four events during the Games, attracting thousands of visitors, which has prompted the Evening News to launch its Pride of Bolton campaign.

The campaign has several aims, including:

  • Cleaning up the town;
  • Sending out a positive message about Bolton;
  • Encouraging youngsters to take pride in the town with environmental projects;
  • Rewarding communities and individuals at a special awards ceremony later in the year;
  • Attracting inward investment to create jobs, prosperity and improve the environment.

    As part of the campaign the paper will highlight some of the problems the town has, such as crime and neglect, in an attempt to get something done, as well as focusing on the good things happening in the town.

    The Prime Minister has already pledged his backing for the campaign and in a personal message to Evening News readers, he said: “I’m delighted to give my personal support to the Bolton Evening News.

    “The Pride of Bolton campaign is an excellent initiative and exactly what I would expect from a paper right at the heart of its community.

    “It’s a positive campaign that will build on the strong community spirit that is already one of the strengths of the town.”
