Push to save PO follows the Leader

Plans to close a busy post office have sparked a new campaign from the News Post Leader.

The Northumberland paper is joining forces with the community after Blyth’s main post office came under threat.

Residents, traders and visitors are all being given a chance to speak up in protest at the proposals, which stem from a cost-cutting initiative from mail bosses.

They want to move facilities across the town and install them in the local Co-op.

If the plan went ahead, it would close the last Crown post office in the county, and replace it with one hundreds of yards away from any public transport.

Voices behind the outcry include disabled and pensioners’ groups, MPs and the town centre manager.

But post office chiefs insist the move will improve facilities, as there would be nine counter positions, a Bureau de Change and wheelchair access.
