Protection plea for Black Country homes

An accident prevention group is teaming up with the Express and Star’s campaign to get smoke detectors installed in homes across the Black Country.

More than half the homes in the area are without an alarm, which could save lives by alerting householders to an emergency.

The Express & Star, in partnership with West Midlands Fire Service, will promote the simple safety device in the next few weeks.

And now the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents is backing the scheme, its aims and its objectives.

Rospa spokesman Roger Vincent said: “It is a fact that smoke alarms save lives and anything which promotes them is supported.”

He also advised readers to plan an escape route from their homes to use in the event of fire.
