Protect Our Kids campaign returns

Shame-faced parents have been targeted in a fresh blitz on zig-zag parkers as part of the Aberdeen Evening ExpressProtect Our Kids campaign.

The newspaper has been campaigning against parents parking on zig-zag markings outside primary schools and has highlighted how parking in these zones makes it unsafe for schoolchildren to cross the road – and increases the chances of an accident.

The campaign had almost eradicated the problem across the city, but after a concerned parent contacted the paper, the Express decided to act again.

A photographer has been visiting schools in the area to take pictures of any cars parked on the zig-zags, and then the paper has printed the registration numbers on its ‘roll of shame’.

The latest school to be targeted was Woodside Primary School, where a photographer snapped three cars parking on the yellow zig-zags in just 15 minutes.

Woodside head teacher, Caroline Johnstone said: “The Protect Our Kids campaign did calm things down for a while, but it has become worse in the winter months with more parents bringing their children to school by car.”

Launched in 1998 the Evening Express Protect Our Kids campaign has been one of the most successful campaigns ever in Scotland.
