Prisoner heartened by Echo effort

A copy of the Liverpool Echo has boosted the spirits of a prisoner locked up in Spain who believes he is the victim of a miscarriage of justice.

Kevan Sloan, who is serving three-and-a-half years for an armed robbery in Tenerife, was jailed after his alleged victim identified him as the robber.

But he is supposed to have threatened her in Spanish – a language he does not speak – and was cleared on four other charges when it was revealed he was in the UK at the time.

The Echo is campaigning for Justice for Kevan and last week carried an article examining a series of flaws in the evidence that convicted him.

His mother, who lives in Tenerife and was the reason Kevan visited the island, showed him a copy of the paper at the weekend. She said it had “certainly boosted his spirits” and thanked readers for their support.

He has lodged an appeal against his conviction and his MP is calling on the Home Secretary to get it overturned.
