Pride and passion for home town

Huddersfield – and proud of it!

That’s the message that’s going around the globe as part of the Examiner’s campaign to boost the town’s image and take pride in the area.

It was sparked by a row over postcode changes in the area, which would have resulted in losing the name of the town from people’s addresses.

The fury that erupted has revealed local people’s passion for Huddersfield and their desire to protect their links with the town.

As well as featuring success stories from the area and examples of why people can feel proud of our town, the paper has produced the t-shirts – and car stickers bearing the Huddersfield – And Proud Of It logo.

Internet readers are snapping up the t-shirts and wearing them in places like Cyprus, America and Australia.

And groups going abroad from the town are buying them to wear on their overseas trips.

Sales promotions manager Caroline Courtney, is delighted with their popularity.

She said; “We have sold more than 200 already and a lot of people are buying them over the Internet.

“We have already publicised several groups going abroad in their T-shirts including the boxers from Rawthorpe Amateur Boxing Club, who set off for the Seychelles on April 1.

“We are excited that the shirts are being paraded around the world.”
