People working to preserve the environment in the North East are to be honoured by the local press.
The Northern Echo is launching its Making a Difference award for the third year to reward any group or individual with a inspirational green scheme.
One NorthEast, a regional regeneration agency, is sponsoring the award and readers are being asked to nominate candidates in the coming months.
Editor Peter Barron said: “Over the last two years, Making a Difference has attracted a high calibre of entries and it has been difficult for judges to draw up a shortlist let alone choose a winner.
“At the Northern Echo, we have long known that the region has a strong community spirit coupled with a genuine concern for the environment.”
The winner of the competition wins 500 and two runners up receieve consolation prizes.
Nominations can be made through a form in the paper or by visiting the Northern Echo web site www.thisisthenortheast.co.uk. Voting closes in in August.
