Press campaigns round-up

Almost 500 jobs have been created by the Liverpool Echo’s Kickstart campaign, for anyone setting up their own business or expanding an existing one.
Editor Mark Dickinson said: “Merseyside has proved its ‘get up and go’ spirit.”

River accidents have been cut in the wake of the Evening News-backed SOS safety scheme for Norwich’s waterways.
An SOS safety boat was one of the measures put in place after two people drowned during nights out in the city.

Cancer equipment costing £54,000 has been handed over to Derby hospitals thanks to the Evening Telegraph’s Magic Million appeal.
The latest purchase brings the total spending to more than £800,000, and accounts for 30 items of medical equipment.

A survey in the Western Morning News has shown that local food is not getting the promotion it needs in supermarkets across the Westcountry.
Following on from the paper’s Buy Local campaign, the random survey of shops showed some places carrying Westcountry promotion but others gave no clue as to where produce came from.

The Gazette & Herald in Wiltshire has launched an appeal for nursery school toys after a playgroup fire at Corsham.
A shed containing toys, equipment and books, as well as several bicycles, was damaged.

A campaign to raise £50,000 for the charity Cancer and Leukaemia in Children has so far brought in more than £100,000.
With backing from the East Anglian Daily Times, proceeds have continued to grow, and editor Terry Hunt said: “We thought £50,000 might be a little ambitious, so to reach that initial target, and then go on to double it, is absolutely brilliant.”

The Norwich Evening News/Big C Opening the Door Appeal has topped the £50,000-mark, creating a good base for a new cancer information and support centre at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
