Press call for more protection for UK troops

The Bolton News has relaunched one of its most successful campaigns for 2007.

  • Bin it for Bolton won widespread acclaim when it was first launched in 2004 with the aim of clearing the town of ruibbish and graffiti.

Now it is back with a strong web presence and new goals.

Dozens of members of the public have logged on to The Bolton News’ website to name and shame grot spots in their area.

And an online forum established to run alongside the camapign has proved popular.

The paper has reverse published many of the comments and used a number as the basis for news stories in the print edition.

Editor Steve Hughes said: “Bin it for Bolton is an excellent example of how the The Bolton News and its website now work hand in hand.

“Our web forums and online content are proving to be increasingly popular with our readers and give us ever expanding scope to cross-refer between publications and reverse publish.”

The campaign aims to restore pride in the area by clearing town centre streets of rubbish, and encouraging residents of the borough to look after their neighbourhoods. It has been welcomed by Bolton’s civic leaders, MPs and traders.
