Council bosses agreed to clear up an Aberdeen pensioner’s water-hit flat after the Evening Express stepped in.

Council officials had told 86-year-old Lois Hallam to re-decorate after a faulty boiler came through her bedroom ceiling and left walls stained with damp.

But after she contacted the Aberdeen Evening Express – and they contacted the council – the bosses relented and agreed to do the work for her.

The Evening Express ran the story of its success under its logo “Not just words – ACTION”.
