Party boost for Evening Times

The Glasgow Evening Times could not mask its delight after party-goers at a May Day ball raised a £41,000 for its cancer care centre appeal.

Thanks to the generosity of the guests who attended the Masked May Day Ball event at the Hilton Hotel, the total for the Maggie’s Centre Appeal now stands at just over £203,000.

The total was raised through the 350-plus ticket sales and an auction, with leading Scots businessmen and woman such as Tom Hunter and Ann Gloag donating prizes.

This alone raised £25,000 to put towards the £500,000 needed for the centre.

Bob Speirs, Chariman of Maggie’s Centres Glasgow, said the fun occasion aimed to make a serious difference to people living with cancer in West Scotland.

He added: “Maggie’s Centres are special places – they provide information and support for anyone affected by cancer.”
