Partnership in crackdown on illegal dumping

Fly-tipping hot spots are coming under the spotlight as the Yorkshire Evening Post teams up with Wakefield Council, Ridings FM and the police.

The paper is carrying regular features on the tipping problem in a bid to cut down on dumped rubbish.

A popular walkers’ spot is the latest area to be targeted in the crackdown.

The car park at Horbury Lagoons, a popular walking area, has been used as an illegal dumping ground for household and commercial rubbish.

Council technician Richard Bolton said it was vital to be given information to remove rubbish and begin restoring the area’s natural beauty.

He said: “Information is essential to us. If the general public don’t give us information then it can take a long time to get to the bottom of the problem.”
