Newspaper prints photos to find graffiti culprits

The Oldham Evening Chronicle has joined the fight against a plague of graffiti which is costing the town tens of thousands of pounds to remove.

The newspaper is publishing a series of photographs of graffiti taken around the town in a bid to find the culprits.

Readers are being urged to study the pictures and name and shame those responsible.

The town suffers from ‘tag’ graffiti, used by people who spray a distinct signature to mark their territory, and last year Oldham Council spent £100,000 removing unsightly graffiti and flyposting.

The Chronicle’s move follows the setting up of the Oldham Reassurance Project, which is tackling low-level crimes such as vandalism.

The scheme is also offering a £50 reward to anyone who comes forward with information which leads to a prosecution.
