New milestone as Telegraph appeal tops £700,000

The Derby Evening Telegraph’s Magic Million campaign hit another milestone as donations topped the £700,000 mark.

The appeal aims to raise £1m to buy life-saving cancer equipment for Derby hospitals in memory of local fund-raiser Bernard Le Blond who died of prostate cancer in 1997.

Readers have contributed £280,000 since the Telegraph adopted the campaign 15 months ago and editor Mike Norton is delighted at the progress made.

He said: “I think the work that people are doing to raise money for the appeal is amazing.

“It’s created so much interest and people of all ages have been dreaming up great ways to boost the funds and help others.

Mike is confident that the good work will continue.

He said: “We’ve featured many fantastic stories in the Evening Telegraph and hope people continue to keep up the good work.

“There’s still a long way to go, but I’m confident we’ll reach £1m together.”
