Mail leads the way on safety

The Oxford Mail is running a week-long campaign in a bid to improve road safety as the winter nights draw in.

The Mail is concerned at the number of incidents involving pedestrians and cyclists – who drivers simply can’t see.

With Thames Valley Police, the AA and the Oxfordshire County Council, it will be highlighting the dangers of travelling during darker evenings.

Ans as part of the campaign, the Mail is handing out red fleeces with reflective tape to all its paper deliverers.

Newsquest Oxfordshire publishing manager Tom Mitchell said: “When our young people are moving about we want them to be seen and be safe.

“These fleeces are a wonderful way to make sure they are seen. And we hope they will make other people think about their own safety on dark evenings.”

During Road Safety week, the Mail is offering its readers cut-price deals on products made by Reflexite, who produce the fleeces.
