Mail campaign delivered to Home Office

Coupons signed by Hull Daily Mail readers urging the Home Office to let a two-year-old Ukranian girl stay in the UK for life-changing treatment have been taken to London.

More than 2,000 signatures were presented to a representative of Home Office minister Beverly Hughes by Luda Balan’s carers.

The Home Office spokeswoman receiving the coupons on behalf of Ms Hughes said: “They will be given to the Immigration Office.

“We can’t comment on individual cases but the coupons will go to Ms Hughes. She is aware of the case and will look into it.”

The orphan has a genetic disorder called amyoplasia which has twisted her limbs and prevents her from walking.

Treatment could take up to 16 years of continuous surgery but doctors will not start the programme until she is given permission to stay.

The Mail launched its Let Luda Stay campaign at the end of May and has been following the case closely with a series of articles.
