Local press gives Luther hope

A brighter future may be in prospect for a Cerebral Palsy sufferer from Chippenham – thanks to an appeal in his local paper.

The North Wilts Gazette is aiming to raise £9,500 for eight-year-old Luther Frost-Barnes so that he can undergo a new Russian treatment for his condition.

Both Luther and his uncle Johnathan suffer from Cerebral Palsy, which causes severe co-ordination difficulties and prevents sufferers from walking.

Treatment for Cerebral Palsy has failed to move on in the last three decades but hope has arrived in the new Russian-developed therapy called Advanced Neuromotor Rehabilitation.

The therapy is being offered by a local charity called Advance, and in the ten-weeks that Luther has been on it, his parents have reported remarkable progress.

Yet despite experts telling Luther’s parents that he may eventually be able to walk for the first time, the NHS is refusing to fund the programme because it is too new.

So now the Gazette wants to raise money so that Luther can carry on with the treatment – and is hoping its readers will foot the bill.

The paper has asked readers to either give donations or organise fund-raising events.
