Lindsey breaks £1m barrier

The Scunthorpe Telegraph’s Lindsey Lodge Hospice appeal was celebrating today after the fund was topped up with a £250,000 National Lottery Grant.

The cash injection leaves the appeal at more than £1m – less than £400,000 away from its £1.4m target. The campaign is now set to move into its final stages.

The major stepping stone is a turnaround after a previous Lottery bid was turned down.

Telegraph editor Michelle Lalor said: “It is brilliant to break the million pound mark.

“We know how heartbroken the staff and patients were when the National lottery turned down the £800,000 bid last autumn so we are extremely pleased the board has reconsidered its decision.

“This new unit will mean an awful lot to seriously ill patients and their relatives and friends in North Lincolnshire, so we hope people will continue to support the appeal through to its fruition.”

Fund raising through the Telegraph has contributed more than £60,000 to the total and included events ranging from milkmen posing nude for a calendar to coffee mornings and beetle drives.
