Key support for Herald protest

Community leaders in Aylesbury have backed The Bucks Herald’s Save Our Post Office campaign with a protest march in the town centre.

For the past five weeks, the Herald has run feature articles detailing the arguments against the closure of four post offices, and featuring case studies people affected by the loss of services.

Now the town’s MP David Lidington, Mayor Ray Ghent, former mayor Freda Roberts, chairman of Aylesbury Vale District Council Hedley Cadd and Raj Kahn, representing the town’s Muslim population, have all joined forces to organise a protest rally next Tuesday.

Bucks Herald editor David Summers said: “I am delighted that these five community leaders in Aylesbury have backed our campaign with such a show of united support – I hope that as many members of public as possible turn out to show their opposition to the planned closures.

“This has been a tremendous campaign, and one that has united the community.”

Raj Khan said the campaign had persuaded the organisers that a very public show of dissatisfaction was needed.

He said: “We are the guardians of the town and speak on behalf of the community but this is everyone’s chance to do something about it.

“This is trespassing into people’s emotions and I appeal to everyone to get out there and speak their minds. Your town needs you. Come and join me and my colleagues.”

David Lidington MP praised The Bucks Herald for acting as the voice of the people, and the Mayor described the campaign as “brilliant”.
