Journal to work for 'Jigsaw' appeal

The Newcastle Journal has put the final pieces in place and announced this year’s Millennium Fund charity.

The St Oswald’s Hospice Jigsaw Appeal hopes to raise £5.1m to build a dedicated children’s unit at the hospice in Gosforth and run it for two years.

Organisers are appealing to Journal readers to arrange coffee mornings, do sponsored runs or swims, or organise other fund-raising schemes for the appeal

It has already raised £3.25m towards building the eight-bedroom unit, which will serve the entire North-East.

A spokesperson for the newspaper said: “We believe The Journal’s 132,000 readers will recognise the value of building a dedicated children’s unit in the region and support the St Oswald’s Jigsaw Appeal.

“Help us to help some children fit a lifetime into a childhood.”

Currently, there are 1,200 children in the region with life-limiting illnesses and the unit is vital to providing care for them.
