Hospice campaign reaches £1.7m

A fund raising campaign launched by the York Evening Press has reached the £1.7m mark.

The Hospice 2000 appeal is to help meet the costs of the extension to St Leonard’s Hospice, which will cost £2m overall.

Guests were given a tour of the new extension site after a new petal was placed on the ‘petalometer’ that shows the amount raised to date.

Hospice chief executive Steven Harker said: “The response to our appeal continues to amaze everyone involved at St Leonard’s. We are ever closer to reaching the summit of our £2m mountain.

“We need the final push to achieve our target. We are so grateful to everyone for their continued and faithful support.”

Evening Press editor Liz Page said: “It’s great to see the site really starting to take shape. With everyone’s help we might be able to see it up and running later this year.”
