A donation of £4,000 has enabled the South Wales Argus to reach its £50,000 target in the St Anne’s Hospice Appeal.

And thanks to an agreement the paper set up it means the fund will be doubled to £100,000 by the Julian Hodge Bank to build a day room and improve facilities for Gwent’s only in-patient hospice.

More events being held over the summer will further boost the total.

The Argus said: “Since launching our appeal at the beginning of January, we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our readers.

“Some opened their hearts to us about the care their relatives had received at the hospice.

“All spoke highly of the dedicated and committed staff and praised the care and concern shown to parents and their families.”
