Homes for horses

Two horses have been rehomed after the North Devon Journal teamed up with a charity to appeal to the public for help.

The Society for the Protection and Rehoming of Animals found itself inundated with calls after the story of Minstrel and Caprice was featured in the newspaper.

Manager of the charity Stuart Ford said: “Thanks to the appeal in the Journal, we have had lots of calls from people who are serious horse lovers wanting to take Minstrel and Caprice in.”

The two horses were left in the care of the charity after their previous owner re-located and was unable to take them along.

Minstrel, a thoroughbred gelding and Caprice, a rich bay mare, have been together for many years are could not be separated.

The charity has been running for six months in East Anstey to find homes for abandoned or unwanted pets.

The organisation has had to stop home checks due to the foot and mouth crisis but will continue as soon as the Ministry of Agriculture gives them the all clear.

Mr Ford said: “The Journal has been a great help to the charity and has really opened things up. People are even donating money to us, which is wonderful.”
