Hard-hitting series targets drugs

The Nottingham Evening Post has declared War on Drugs.

In a hard-hitting six-page expose on the drugs menace in Nottingham, which included a front page splash and heart-rending stories an d features inside, the paper is taking a close-up view on how drugs touch everyone’s life.

The paper reveals how one baby a month is born already hooked on heroin in the city.

The stories examine the perils of drugs, the cost that everyone bears, how drugs have crept into fashion – and the ripples caused every day by the growing drugs crisis.

The Post’s Opinion column said: “The hard-hitting campaign we launch today aims to get across a basic and disturbing point…

“Drugs and drug abuse are no longer issues at the margins of society.

“They are a way of life for a growing number of people… and they are increasingly affecting the lives of ordinary Notts folk who have nothing to do with drugs.”

The paper promised to give the facts in the next few days – and steer clear of the propaganda and hype surrounding the subject.
