Hale award iminent?

Don Hale could be rewarded for his hard work on the Stephen Downing campaign with a prestigious award.

The Matlock Mercury editor has been nominated for Editor/Journalist of the Year in the What the Papers Say Awards 2000.

The awards ceremony takes place at the Savoy Hotel in London on Friday, December 22. It will be shown on BBC2 the following evening.

Don is clearly delighted to have been nominated.

He says: “The most important thing to me is to get him out of prison. But having said that, it’s good to have hard work appreciated. It’s nice when the national media recognise the ‘little guy’ so to speak.”

But on his chances of winning the award, Don is characteristically modest.

He said: “It’s hard to say because I’ve never been nominated before. It’s just nice to be recognised.”
