Guardian pledges continued support

The Worksop Guardian has pledged to continue its support for a local charity after results exceeded all expectations.

The DEXA Bone Scanner appeal was launched at the end of September 1999 with the aim of raising cash for a new bone scanner for Bassetlaw hospital.

The appeal founders hoped that £80,000 would be raised within 12 months. Thanks to the support of the Guardian, and its readers, the cash fund now stands at £80,123.

However, the charity plans to keep on with its fundraising. Since the appeal was launched, the price of the scanner has gone up. There are also a number of extras that need to be bought along with the scanner such as changing facilities and equipment.

Appeal co-ordinator Janet Petts is thankful for the help.

She told readers of the paper: “It is just brilliant that we hit the target within the year. People have been so generous and we are all very grateful.”

The Worksop Guardian has renewed its support for the charity and will continue to promote any events planned. There are plans for a 1970s themed disco in a local pub and a make-over evening at Bassetlaw hospital.
