Free Press leads tube debate

The Amersham and Chesham edition of the Bucks Free Press has been leading the debate on the deteriorating state of London Underground’s Metropolitan line service for the past two months.

The paper has run a series of hard-hitting exclusives calling the company to account over a litany of delays, missed connections and late-running trains.

And it has set a news agenda which has left its rivals in its wake.

The Free Press was the first newspaper with the news that tube bosses had refused to meet their public over train delays.

It was the only paper to back tube managers into a corner after exposing a series of worrying management failures which were at the heart of the company’s poor service.

And it was the only paper to cover arguably the most important public meeting for years in Chesham, when managers admitted their service was poor and offered little hope for the future.

The paper backed up its reports by printing a leaflet publicising the public meeting, which was distributed by the town council.
