Father and son reunion

A teenager has been reunited with his father after more than ten years thanks to an article in the Bucks Herald.

The boy’s father left home after his parents separated when he was five.

They managed to stay in contact by letter until four years ago when the dad stopped writing for personal reasons.

But in a last-ditch attempt to get back in touch, after having searched the Internet and written letters to everyone in Aylesbury with the same name as his dad, the son, Robert Ward, got in touch with his local paper.

He told readers he was desperate to get in touch in time for his 18th birthday – and within hours of publication the Herald got a call from dad, Kenneth.

The paper told how both had a sleepless night before their first meeting in almost 13 years.

Robert said: “I didn’t think the response would be as quick but I just wanted to see him.

“I went through so many different emotions it’s hard to describe.”

Kenneth said: “It means the world to me that he wanted to see me. I’d resigned my self to the fact I’d never see him again for the rest of my life.

“I really appreciate what the paper did.”
