Evening Post leads plea for safer marina

More than 6,000 people have signed a petition in the South Wales Evening Post calling for improved safety measures around Swansea Marina.

The paper made its move following the death of a 21-year-old legal executive, who fell into the River Tawe in March.

He was the ninth person to die in similar circumstances in ten years and his parents launched a campaign to prevent it happening again.

The Post picked it up and offered to publish the petition, printing cut-out forms on the front page.

It wants railings erected around all the marina’s watersides.

Swansea Council, which is responsible for the marina area, has said it takes safety issues very seriously and is in the process of carrying out a risk assessment in the area.
