A Norfolk paper’s cancer appeal has burst through its target amount thanks to a bumper December.

The Evening News campaign has gone way past the £250,000 mark following a series of fundraising events during Christmas.

The appeal was launched to raise money for the 20th anniversary of the Big C, a local charity which works to boost cancer treatment and research.

Events in December took the total amount raised to £272,000 and a further large donation is expected from the organisers of the Snetterton Race Weekend.

Mary White, the Big C’s general manager, said: “We may have reached our £250,000 target for the year but we are still seeing the money roll in from various events. It’s been fantastic.”
