A successful newspaper campaign has improved conditions for road users.

After the Aberdeen Evening Express publicised the threat posed by the broken lighting on one of the region’s busiest roads, contractors were brought in to rectify the problem.

But the move only came after six weeks of darkness along the stretch of the A90 when motorists started to complaining to the Evening Express.

Another campaign run by the paper – to eliminate potholes on a different stretch of the A90 – has not yet paid off.

The paper was told by a Scottish Executive spokesman that this project was still in planning, but would be completed before further work and disruption was due to begin in mid-September.
