Eight-page drugs 'special' from the Post

An eight-page pull-out on what every parent should know about drugs has been published by the Nottingham Evening Post.

The supplement drew to a close the Post’s hard-hitting campaign about drugs and drug abuse.

It was launched because the drug problem is no longer something affecting the margins of society – with burglaries, thefts, public health problems, demands on taxes and environmental damage all a potential consequence of drug abuse.

The Post’s investigation War on Drugs saw health correspondent Madeline Brindley explore the ways drugs touch every aspect of life in Nottinghamshire.

On the front page of the supplement, the Post advised: “Keep it somewhere. You never know when you might need it.”

Inside, it focused on a family almost destroyed by the spectre of drug abuse, a list of common drugs, what they are and what their affects are, and a feature on the police’s award-winning DARE scheme, encouraging youngsters to say no to schools.

There was also advice on what do to and where to go for help if your feared your child was taking drugs.

The Post issued a plea for everyone to read the supplement to increase their knowledge of drugs – and the agencies that offer guidance and help in preventing the problem or dealing with it.

“Drugs and drug abuse are no longer issues at the margins of society.

“They are at the centre of it, touching the lives of people who know nothing about drugs and want nothing to do with them.

“We cannot solve the problem of damaged or wasted lives.

“But we can at least spread information, in the hope of generating alertness, action and understanding.”
