Don't move it – Improve it, says Cornishman

The Cornishman has launched a campaign calling for investment in a Cornwall hospital.

The Don’t move it – Improve it campaign has been launched in conjunction with St Ives MP Andrew George to press local health managers and the Government to invest in West Cornwall Hospital in Penzance instead of taking the services it offers elsewhere.

Mr George said: “The local Health Authority and Trusts have nearly completed their review of the services at West Cornwall Hospital. Many locals fear the outcome has already been pre-judged.

“If hospital managers have already identified problems at the hospital then they should do something about it to keep the services there not take them away.”

A letter published in the Cornishman calls for a general upgrading of services provided by the hospital, including reinstating 24-hour doctor-led Accident and Emergency and enhancing scanning facilities, high dependency support and coronary care.

Mr George said: “We are not asking for the earth. We are simply asking for a modest level of investment to ensure that the people of West Cornwall can receive a level of acute medical and surgical care which most other parts of the country take for granted.”
