Cut the Jams hits a snag

Drivers in Aberdeen are facing months of traffic chaos after council bosses admitted a major bridge could stay shut until June.

But despite the setback, the Evening Express has vowed to continue its Cut the Jamscampaign for motorists affected by the news.

Thousands of cars were diverted onto city roads after Grandholm Bridge was closed by developers Cala, who said they didn’t yet have the money to carry out vital repairs.

The company has now found the money for the repairs – but say it could be months before the bridge is re-opened.

At a bad-tempered council meeting, 2,500 angry residents gathered to vent their fury at Aberdeenshire County Council for their handling of the situation.

And now the Evening Express is calling for the council to request funding from the Scottish Executive to help alleviate the situation.
