Council pledge on Taunton traffic trouble

A long-running campaign over traffic problems in Taunton could be about to pay off, with the local council pledging to take action.

The Taunton Times launched its campaign last year after the town virtually ground to a halt following the introduction of a new traffic system near the busy railway station.

The paper was deluged with letters of support from readers as commuters, businesses and voluntary groups backed the call for a re-think on Station Road.

And following the local council elections, the new administration at Taunton Deane Borough Council is pledging to put the Station Road problems at the top of its priority list.

Editor Debbie Rundle said: “The traffic problems in Station Road may not seem to be a particularly glamorous issue on which to campaign but our readers made it clear it was their single biggest gripe.

“Features editor Alyson Stoodley compiled an excellent four-week campaign which really grabbed local attention. We now hope councillors will live up to their promises.”
