Community values are key

An appeal success generated by “community values from a community newspaper” has helped get a cancer unit up and running.

The Lynn News and its readers have co-ordinated a £535,000 bounty for a £1.2m unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Lynn News publishing director David Dixon said: “The campaign has been a real success thanks to the hard work and tireless efforts of our readers.

“It is a good example of a community newspaper working with the community to help produce something tangible to benefit the people of West Norfolk.”

But he said there was more to come – because there was still a lot of money to be raised for the scheme.

He promised: “We will keep on raising money and we will continue to support the campaign.”

The events and fund-raising, led by the News, were hailed a “stunning partnership” by MacMillan Cancer Relief regional director Dr Gareth Tuckworth.

He praised the paper for raising the awareness of the needs of people affected by cancer across West Norfolk.
