Clean sweep for London press

The people of South London are being asked to make a Clean Sweep by their local paper – which is appealing for news on trouble-spots and dumping grounds.

Already reporter Peter Harrison and photographer Maurice Gordon have been out and about in Southwark to see the state of the streets, and reported back in a double-page spread.

The South London Press said: “It is not acceptable to simply find a corner in a car park and leave that unwanted sofa for someone else to worry about.

“There are so-called adults out there who don’t care about the state of the community they live in and there is absolutely no excuse for that.”

The paper is calling on businesses and individuals to get in touch and alert staff to areas where fly tipping is frequent, where bins overflow or where parks are full of litter.

To counter the grim news the SLP is also promising to report on success stories, where community groups have joined together and turned festering areas into places to be proud of.

The paper plans to turn the project into a running feature and help people be more responsible for their home.
