Citizen in pub win

A winner has been announced in the Blackpool Citizen’s competition to name a new pub in St Annes.

Readers were asked to nominate topical names for the new Wetherspoon’s free house which opens in February.

Suggestions ranged from the ridiculous to the sublime with names such as The Squire Pickles after the last squire of Lytham and St Annes and Dawson’s Creek after late comedian Les Dawson who grew up there.

But the winner, as picked by Wetherspoon bosses, was teacher Sheila Parker who suggested The Trawlboat Arms after one of the town’s first pubs.

Sheila and her husband will be treated a complimentary meal on the pub’s opening night with a bottle of wine and a certificate.
