Chronicle extends schools safety campaign

The Bath Chronicle is boosting its Safety Outside Schools campaign by issuing glow-in-the-dark wristbands to children.

Head teachers of primary and junior schools across the circulation area are being invited to collect a batch of free bands.

There are 2,000 bands to be given out to schools on a first-come, first-served basis.

Chronicle picture editor, Kevin Bates, came up with the idea of tapping into the wristband craze.

Editor Sam Holliday said: “We are delighted to be able to offer these wristbands as a way of helping pupils stay safe as the nights draw in.

“We hope by wearing the bands it will get pupils talking about the importance of staying vigilant as they leave school.

“We also hope they will act as a visible reminder to parents and motorists about why it is essential that we all slow down outside schools.”

The Chronicle’s campaign is calling for more 20mph limits outside schools and aims to highlight the need for motorists and parents to exercise more care on the roads.
