Christmas trees on the cards

The Birkenhead News is spearheading a vociferous campaign to make this year’s Christmas more colourful.

The newspaper has donated £500 to an ambitious scheme to decorate the town centre with brand new decorations.

Now it is calling on local businesses to do the same.

Each business along the town’s main shopping street is being asked to donate £350 to the project.

The paper is working with the Town Centre Traders Forum to organise the appeal.

Wirral News Group editor Sue McCann said: “We are pleased to be backing the Town Centre Forum in its bid to make this Christmas a truly bright and cheerful one in Birkenhead.”

The proposals being tabled will result in each lamp-post being adorned with six-foot high green and gold traditional Christmas trees pulsating with sparkling lights.

More money has been promised from a nearby shopping precinct and Wirral Borough Council has also pledged to match the donations pound for pound.
